A long bike trip from Florence to Siena and back

This bike tour in stages follows a circular itinerary through the most picturesque spots and places richest in beauty, history and taste in Chianti. This tour offers the chance to follow a circuit with departure from Florence, going through Siena and then returning to Florence, along the hills of Chianti Classico and visiting medieval hamlets, castles and Romanesque churches. To make up for the gruelling physical exercise we’ll be stopping to taste good wines and the specialities of Tuscan cooking. The tour can be booked as private or as group program , with fixed starting dates.

The program Day 1 : Florence - Certaldo - 40 km. - This stage starts with a very easy uphill to Piazzale Michelangelo, one of the most scenic panoramic spots over the city center of Florence from the south. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. From Florence we’ll be riding gentle ups and downs to the medieval town of Certaldo, where the poet Boccaccio was born. Special dinner at Restaurant Al Castello.
Day 2 : Certaldo - Monteriggioni - 43 km. - On the third day we’ll be riding through one of the most beautiful stretches of the Via Francigena, a major route followed during the Middle Ages by thousand of pilgrims on their way to Rome. Before reaching the magic castle of Monteriggioni we’ll visit the pictoresque medieval hamlet of San Gimignano and the fortified town of Colle Val d’Elsa. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Dinner at your own.
Day 3 : Monteriggioni - Siena - 25 km. - Today’s itinerary is considerably shorter than the others because it’s particularly full of things to see. In fact, once in Siena we’ll be riding a circular loop through this very suggestive medieval city stopping to visit its main monuments. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Tuscan dinner at Taverna del Capitano.
Day 4 : Siena - Gaiole in Chianti - 43 km. (8 unpaved) - During this 4th leg we’ll be biking the area of the castles of Chianti, passin the castles of Brolio, Cacchiano and Meleto before reaching the pretty medieval town of Gaiole. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Dinner at your own.
Day 5 : Gaiole in Chianti - San Leonino - 40 km. (10 unpaved) - During this 5th leg we’ll be cycling across the gentle hills of the Chianti Senese, enjoying breathtaking views over the Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata, a 1770 m. high extinct volcano. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Special dinner at Belvedere di S.Leonino.
Day 6 : San Leonino - Greve - 32 km. - Today we’ll be cycling through the very heart of Chianti, the Chianti Classico, visiting the suggestive medieval hamlet of Castellina and the ancient castle of Panzano and enjoying scenic views over hills covered with vineyards, olive groves, cypress trees and woodlands. Lunch at Restauran Cantinetta di Rignana. Dinner at your own.
Day 7 : Greve - Florence - 32 km. - During the last leg of this bike tour we’ll be biking towards Florence following a very scenic itinerary through the so-called “Chianti Fiorentino”. Along the way picnic with hand-produced Tuscan cold meats and cheeses. Farewell dinner at Restaurant Gastone.
