Elba’s wine and beaches

Elba has always been considered a favourite destination by those who wish to spend a holiday surrounded by nature, clean beaches and crystal clear sea without the need for a long journey by sea or several hours by plane. The atmosphere of the towns inland and the villages along the coast is the same as in any other Tuscan town with a large central square, church and town hall facing each other, as two such powers ought to, grocery shops and bars frequented by the locals. The natural surroundings however, add something special, low vegetation and the Mediterranean bush typical of the islands, alternating with vineyards and olive groves. In the middle of this natural contest, you will find one of the most interesting and traditional Tuscan cookery with special white and red wines. Rio Marina is one of these villages with a square which opens onto the port and the marine horizon. Taste the Elba Island and its special wines.

Agritourism Le Sughere is a beautiful residence, part of a farm producing oil and wine situated on the hill dominating Rio Marina, comfortable brand new bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, large panoramic swimming pool and private parking. Can be reached on foot from the centre of the town with a walk of 20 minutes but a car is recommended. Single or double rooms with bathroom.

The program

* Friday – Arrival and settling in at the Agriturismo Le Sughere. Meeting with the guide and presentation of the programme. Guided tour of the farm and tasting of the wines produced. Welcome cocktail and dinner in the farm holiday centre.
* Saturday – Guided tour by private car to the East Elba coast beaches: Cala dell’Alga, Cala del Frugoso, Nisporto and Nisportino. Fish lunch in Restaurant Battigia in Nisportino with a guided wine tasting to the Elba’s wines. Visit to the honey maker Mr. Ballini. Return to the farm : guided visit to the cellar: ancient and modern methods in wine production; guided wine tasting to the Aleatico and dessert wines, introduction to the red Passito; dinner with a special Rio Marina menu.
* Sunday – Guided tour over the hills of Rio nell’Elba in search of old terraced vineyards and the newly planted vineyards, picnic at the Caligna Armata, ancient watching point of the Italian navy. Departure in the afternoon.

Price Three days program: it includes: private air-conditioned minivan, guide in your language, lunches and dinners as described in the program, wine tastings and two nights in double room with breakfast in Agriturismo Le Sughere, single available with 40 Euro supplement for the two nights.
