Residential fish cooking course in Elba Island
Elba has always been considered a favourite destination by those who wish to spend a holiday surrounded by nature, clean beaches and crystal clear sea without the need for a long journey by sea or several hours by plane. The atmosphere of the towns inland and the villages along the coast is the same as in any other Tuscan town with a large central square, church and town hall facing each other, as two such powers ought to, grocery shops and bars frequented by the locals. The natural surroundings however, add something special, low vegetation and the Mediterranean bush typical of the islands, alternating with vineyards and olive groves. In the middle of this natural contest, you will find one of the most interesting and traditional Tuscan cookery. Rio Marina is one of these villages with a square which opens onto the port and the marine horizon. Taste the Elba Island and its special fish cookery.
The program
* Sunday – Arrival and settling in at the Casa Valdese in Rio Marina. Meeting with the guide and presentation of the programme. Cocktails and fish supper in a trattoria.
* Monday – In the morning, tour of the Rio Marina area to get one’s bearings and see wine and gastronomic attractions. In the afternoon, at 5.00 p.m., cookery course, preparation of a fish menu until about 8.00p.m. and then dinner with the dishes prepared and suitable wines to accompany them.
* Tuesday – Early morning departure on a fishing boat for fishing in the open sea, description of the various types of fish caught and how to store them. Return to the port by lunchtime. In the afternoon, at 5.00 p.m. cookery course with dinner using the fish caught in the morning to prepare typical harbour dishes.
* Wednesday – Departure for a tour of the island with guide and private car, discovering the food and wine products of the Island. Lunch of typical land products grown on the island.
* Thursday – Morning free. In the afternoon, at 5.00 p.m. cookery course with dinner.
* Friday – Early morning departure on a fishing boat for fishing in the open sea, description of the various types of fish caught and how to store them. Return to the port by lunchtime. In the afternoon, at 5.00 p.m. cookery course with farewell dinner and distribution of participation certificates.
* Saturday – Departure.
